Abstract

In previous chapters the changes in the environment of the Nile valley during prehistoric and early historic times have been traced. In Egypt during dynastic times there had already been a great alteration in the natural scene. Man’s influence was decisive in keeping riverain Egypt green by irrigation; further south his efforts at that time were negligible.
