Abstract

We may imagine that the Egyptian landscape during Neolithic and also Pharaonic times had the character of the Sudd region of the present Sudan, a river with marshy shores where huge papyrus thickets offered a splendid abode for hippopotami and crocodiles, for birds and other animals. It was the ideal hunting place for the Neolithic people, who moved about standing on their light papyrus rafts, probably identical to those still in use in parts of Central Africa.

The author has later published at least 100 pamphlets or more on the ancient flora, and to his death in recent years he was considered one of the greatest authorities on this subject.
