Abstract

Some previous chapters dealt with the past conditions in the Nile environment. These differed from the present ones and the Mediterranean region and Egypt were linked with Africa closely. Now the desert surrounds most of the northern and central Nile valley and only a tenuous link exists between the African continent and the ‘oasis’ of Egypt.
