Abstract
The Sandage and Tammann (1975) value of the Hubble constant, adjusted to the new distance to the Hyades, is 50 ± 5 km s−1 Mpc−1, where the quoted uncertainty refers to the internal root-mean-square error but not the systematic errors, which are difficult to assess. On the other hand both de Vaucouleurs and van den Bergh, also using classical methods, continue to prefer values nearer to 100.
