Abstract

Transverse and longitudinal horizontal spatial coherence measurements were conducted in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with explosives and cw-sources. The data reveal a range, frequency and receiver depth dependence. A significant difference in the frequency dependence is observed between transverse and longitudinal coherence. Only a small influence of the rough sea surface on the spatial coherence is observed. A comparison of the data of the different areas and seasons indicate a much stronger influence of the bottom and the spatially varying sound speed field.
