Scientific Applications of Lunar Laser Ranging

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 62))

Abstract

Assuming that, in the future, a 3 cm accuracy on lunar laser ranging will be achieved, representing at least accuracies of the order \( 0\mathop .\limits^ 01\) in lunar rotation and \( 0\mathop .\limits^ 01\) in its motion in space, many dynamical or kinematic features pertaining to the Moon or the Earth-Moon system should become observable and bring new light about the physics of the Earth and of the Moon. These are reviewed in this presentation.
