Abstract
This study deals with intercritical heat treatment optimization of cast low-carbon manganese steel. The steel has been intended for a spent nuclear fuel container and low temperature applications. Proposed austenitizing treatment has been examined by means of thermal expansion measurements. Furthermore, standard heat treatment has been compared with intercritical heat treatment in terms of proper microstructure and optimum transition temperature. An influence of microadditions of Ti and V on properties of as-cast Mn steel (Czech standard CSN 422707 grade) was also analysed. Relationships among individual addition-contents, values of mechanical properties, and the real microstructure of samples are described here
