Abstract

New ternary hydride has been synthesised in the reaction of hydrogen with intermetallic Mg2Eu compound of MgZn2 structure type with hydrogen content of 5.0–5.5 g-at/mol MC. Mg2EuH5.5 (a = 5.344(3) Å; c = 8.014(4) Å; P4/nmm space group, Z=2) conceivably has Cu2Sb structure type, so the parameters of heavy atoms were determined and the model of hydrogen atoms arrangement was proposed.
