Abstract

This chapter covers results of recent investigations on DNA fragments. Isolated DNA bases, hydrogen bonding in DNA base pairs, triplexes, and tetrads as well as interactions with polar solvents and metal cations are discussed. It is concluded that theoretical quantum mechanical ab initio methods are well suited to reveal information concerning their structures and characteristics.
