Abstract
The thorough analysis of available structural, magnetic and spectroscopic data on solid oxygen is presented We demonstrate that from both structural and magnetic points of view solid oxygen behaves like a low dimensional system in all known phases We show that this unusual behavior originates from peculiarities of the molecular structure of oxygen molecule itself, i e amsotropic molecular packing is an inherent property of solid and liquid oxygen We present new spectroscopic and theoretical results, which confirm this principal statement and clear up some question opened up to now Furthermore, we precise the structural model of liquid oxygen and offer the explanation of the peculiarities of the p-T diagram of oxygen at high-pressure Basing on our analysis we formulate some principal problems that should be solved by following investigations
