Reflections on Past and Future Photometric Calibration Situations and the Role of Small Telescopes

Abstract

The original implementation of the most often used of the various photometric systems will be reviewed. The role of small telescopes, herein defined as those whose diameters are less than 2.5-m, in current and future efforts at enhancing photometric standards will be recounted, and future needs driven both by science and technology will be explored. The community must focus on and invest in these cost-effective activities.
