Abstract
We present first results of the kinematics of a large sample of white dwarfs and discuss kinematic criteria for a distinction of thin and thick disk populations. This is the first homogeneous sample of white dwarfs for which 3D space motions are determined. Radial velocities obtained by the SPY project combined with our measurements of spectroscopic distances and proper motions are used to calculate galactic orbits and kinematic parameters. We find a fraction of 4% halo and 10% thick disk white dwarfs.
