Abstract

Since the first report by Bietti in 1937, sectoral retinal pigmentary dystrophy has been investigated by many investigators from various viewpoints (see References). There is, as yet, no established theory concerning the essential nature of sectoral retinal pigmentary dystrophy. It is not known whether it represents one stage in the progress of typical retinitis pigmentosa or, otherwise, a non-progressive, independent form of retinal pigmentary degeneration localized in a portion of the retina.
