Abstract

Comparison of the results of scientific experiments in beef production is frequently difficult because they are usually expressed in terms of differences in some feature of the animal or the carcase, with little attempt to evaluate comparative treatments in commercial terms that permit an assessment of the gains to be achieved by adoption of some alternative method of breeding, husbandry and nutrition, or marketing. The purpose of this study was to search for an index of retail value of beef carcases that would permit measurement of commercial, as well as statistical, significance.
