Abstract
At the present time Neusiedlersee, including the areas overgrown with Phragmites, is a kidney-shaped body of water extending approximately from 47° 38′ to 47° 57′ N and from 16° 41′ to 16° 52′ E. At its deepest, the modern Neusiedlersee basin is about 113.5 m above sea level

(Fig. 4.1). Being a highly astatic lake its area and volume fluctuate considerably from virtually zero to values far beyond those prevailing at present.
