Abstract
The EPR spectra of Cu2+ in oriented films of hectorite has been studied at room temperature.
Theoretical EPR spectra were computer simulated by direct diagonalisation of the total energy matrix. A simple gaussian distribution function for the orientation of elementary crystallites in terms of a spread angle was proposed. A spread angle of (18 ± 2)° was found from direct comparison between real and theoretical spectra.
Components of the g factor and hyperfine tensors of Cu2+ are also given.
