Abstract
No work on mental health has credibility which does not at least attempt to forge out of accumulative and accumulating work new pathways to influencing factors which bear on health improvement. It is helpful to review, relearn and rediscover, but ultimately we must face the formidable task of transcending the bounds of previous knowledge. This section is devoted to papers by visionary leaders in mental health who struggle with the task of translating what is known and refining research techniques into effecting change in the mental health systems of nations.
