Abstract

Atmospheric dynamics is the study of air motion. This motion, as that of any object in classical physics, obeys Newton’s laws. One needs to understand first the nature of the forces experienced by the air before one can properly understand the complex ways through which air moves in the atmosphere. The air in the Earth’s atmosphere experiences basically four types of force, the pressure gradient force, the Coriolis force, and the frictional force.
