Abstract

Many palms produce pati (amylum/starch), e.g. aren, Arenga pinnata, in Java, also found in Sumatra and Kalimantan; in the last few months it has been found that Eugeissona sp. also produces amylum. But the pure amylum comes only from the Metroxylon spp. which the Minangkabau call rumbia, the west Javanese kira, central and east Javanese bulung or kresula, and the Amboinese lapia or napia.
