Central Nervous System Metastases in Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung — A Review

  • Chapter
Neuro-Oncology

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 3))

Abstract

Small cell anaplastic carcinoma of the lung (SCCL) constitutes 20–25% of all malignant lung tumours. It is biologically known to be characterized by a number of clinical features which separate it from epidermoid carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and large cell carcinoma of the lung. The tendency of small cell carcinoma to be ectopically active, and to spread very early and widely is among the most typical characteristics (1).
