Abstract
The development of techniques for the investigation of the venous system of the leg has been hampered by the nonavailability of suitable noninvasive methods, particularly when compared to the ever-expanding technology available for the study of the peripheral arterial system. Consequently, the study of the venous system has, until recently, relied extensively upon venous pressure measurement since the earlier publications relating to its use (1–5).
