LV Wall Fibre Pathways for Impulse Propagation

  • Chapter
Cardiac Dynamics

Part of the book series: Developments in Cardiovascular Medicine ((DICM,volume 2))

Abstract

Pathways for depolarization in the heart wall tend to follow the principal muscle fibre pathways that imbricate gently through the wall in a figure of eight (1,2,3). Each pathway is remarkably close to a geodesic, as described by Clairaut’s theorem (4). All pathways in the LV wall lie in nested sets of toroidal shells that are crescentic in longitudinal section (5, 6).
