The Spectrum of Atrioventricular Valve Atresia: A Two-Dimensional Echocardiographic/Pathological Correlation
The clinical picture of tricuspid or mitral atresia may be due either to absence of an atrioventricular connexion or to the presence of an imperforate membrane . The distinction between these types may in itself have clinical significance and for this cross-sectional two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography should provide the ideal tool. In this study we have investigated 46 patients known to have right or left atrioventricular valve atresia, and correlated our 2D echocardiographic findings with a study of similar autopsy material.
