Part of the book series: Documenta Ophthalmologica Proceedings Series ((DOPS,volume 32))

Summary

In a series of 785 esotropic patients which were treated by surgery a consecutive exotropia occurred 172 times. An analysis of the results revealed that this overcorrection often was due to a vertical deviation and/or a limitation of adduction. Out of the 172 cases of consecutive exotropia 134 were re-operated: in addition to a bilateral 5 mm recession we carefully dealt with any vertical deviation and in case of a large angle or a limitation of adduction we added a monolateral or a bilateral loop to the recession of the lateral rectus muscle.
