Abstract
The presence of HLA antigens on human sperm has been demonstrated by cytotoxic assay, immunofluorescence and inhibition-of-motility assay (Fellous et al., 1970; Halim et al., 1974; Arnaiz-Villena et al., 1978). Similar results were found for SLA antigen on boar sperm (Vaiman, 1974). The present study was undertaken to detect BoLA antigens on washed ejuculated bull sperm. Difficulties in obtaining reproductible and significant results led us to experiment with a large variety of reactives. In parralel and using the same material, we tried to procure positive results for other types of surface antigens using 1) different anti-bovine IgG antibodies and protein A 2) several antibovine blood group determinants from the B,J and S system 3) mouse sera anti bull whole sperm. Lastly, instead of anti-BoLA alloserum, we used a monoclonal antibody anti-human β2-microglobulin (β2m), cross-reacting with bovine β2-microglobulin (Teillaud et al., 1982), but with no better success.
