Abstract
Local fracture in the structure of fibrous medium precedes the formation of the main crack and stimulates its accelerated growth. The study of the conditions of growth and arrest of local cracks, taking into account the inhomogeneous structure of the material, makes it possible to define more precisely the redistribution of stresses in neighboring regions and determine the occurrence of new critical states in components of the medium. The formation of a crack at the interface causes not only instability, but also, by changing the stress state in the fiber, contributes to the formation and growth in the fiber of superficial cracks oriented perpendicular to its axis.
