Delamination of T300/5208 Graphite/Epoxy Laminates

Abstract

As graphite fiber-epoxy resin (Gr/Ep) composites are being used more and more in high performance structures, the need to predict fracture directions or to locate fracture origins becomes apparent. Stress and failure analyses have become primary considerations when corrective action decisions have to be made for repairing or redesigning failed components. This may occur even in the early stage of manufacturing. Observed failure modes in Gr/Ep composites include fiber breakage, matrix cracking, fiber-matrix debonding, delamination of laminates, etc. They are too numerous to be listed. This investigation will only concern with failure by the process of delamination in Gr/Ep laminates.
