Abstract

The term arteriosclerosis is used in different senses by different authors. At the present time arteriosclerosis is used as a collective term for different types of degenerative disorders of the vascular wall which cause hardening of the arterial wall and reduce the functional capacity of the arteries. According to the pathological changes there are four main types of arteriosclerosis, which differ markedly in microscopic appearance and, to some degree, in distribution (Schornagel, 1967, Boyd, 1970).
