Abstract
Long-term ambulatory electrocardiographic (Holter) monitoring is widely used to evaluate patients presenting with palpitations, dizziness and syncope (1). Most of the reports in the literature show a high prevalence of arrhythmias in patients studied for these indications and conclude that the method is very useful (2–5). However, a strong link between symptoms and arrhythmias has only been shown in a small proportion of cases (6, 7) and the value of the method must be weighed against its costs (7).
