Abstract

The mode of action of sulphasalazine still continues to puzzle gastroenterologists after more than 30 years successful use in the treatment of ulcerative colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases. Interest in the last few years has focussed on possibl relationships between sulphasalazine and the prostaglandin systen and this review aims to summarise two diametrically opposite vie that have recently been formulated.
