Abstract
Based upon a lip line field analysis, a unified approach has been carried our for a compact tension specimen in order to give explicit forms of the plastic constraint factor, rotational factor, crack opening displacement, and J-integral. These expressions are compared with the results of finite element analyses and have been found reasonable and useful for fracture toughness testing. Finally, the relation between J and COD has been considered.
