Acquisition of Fertilizing Capacity of Spermatozoa in the Human Epididymis

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Clinics in Andrology ((CLAN,volume 8))

Abstract

Mammalian spermatozoa undergo maturation during their passage through the epididymis, which results in the development of fertilizing capacity (Bedford, 1975). The epididymis actively contributes to sperm maturation with factors produced by the epithelium under the influence of androgens (Orgebin-Crist, 1975).
