Abstract

Infections of the male reproductive tract may cause infertility (Deture et al., 1978; Eneroth et al., 1978; Friberg, 1980; Grossgebauer, 1978; Kaden and Grossgebauer, 1978; Moberg et al., 1979; Moberg et al., 1980; Rehewy et al., 1979; Swenson et al., 1980). The effects of certain acute and systemic infections on human reproduction are well known, but the influence of asymptomatic forms, their natural course and possible role for chronic inflammatory disease of the male accessory genital glands and the effect of bacteriospermia is not yet understood. Comprehensive microbiological and microscopical analysis of semen from infertile men as a causative correlation between microorganisms and an infectious process and/or between microorganisms and the infertility proves difficult.
