Abstract
It is fitting that a chapter on politics should follow one on communication. For the violent political changes and prospects that we are all witnessing today are the result of progress in communication and, I should add, also of transportation. It would be difficult to see how the old social and cultural divisions will continue to suffice when we note the integrating changes that are taking place. A world-wide trade has rapidly accelerated, and so has travel. Messages can now be transmitted around the globe in a few seconds and men themselves can be carried the same distance in less than a day. Thanks to these two developments, the world is a smaller place, and so calls for a corresponding organization.
