Abstract
In man the journey from conception to physical maturity occupies almost a quarter of the life span. Knowledge of the normal variations of growth and development and the interactions of disease with this orderly process is fundamental to the medicine of childhood. In the unbiased opinion of the authors, it also provides the extra dimension which separates the fascination of paediatrics from the drudgery of adult medicine!
