Abstract

There are approximately 30000 diabetic children in Britain aged under 16 years. Each year there are about 1500 new cases and their age distribution is shown in Figure 1. Children with diabetes most often require emergency treatment when they develop ketoacidosis or if they become hypoglycaemic and this chapter describes these two situations.
