The Jews and the Bible

  • Chapter
A History of Endocrinology

Abstract

The principal sources for Jewish medicine are the Bible and the Talmud. There were — of necessity — close connections with Egyptian, Sumerian and Babylonian medicine, as the Jews were in captivity for some 430 years in Egypt, in Assyrian captivity in 722 BC and in Babylonian captivity in 604 BC for another 70 years. Other important sources are, of course, the archaeological findings made in the Holy Land, which are still continuing.
