Abstract
In the follow-up of patients with chronic open angle glaucoma, a quantitative comparison of visual fields is important. In order to make such comparisons, a knowledge of the short-term and long-term fluctuation of the differential light threshold is necessary. This study describes a method for evaluating the individual components of variance of the retinal sensitivity. The components have been weighted and statistically tested. The studies were carried out, predominantly in patients with glaucoma and glaucoma suspects, and the long-term fluctuation was highly significant in these groups. The long-term fluctuation was predominantly homogeneous in all test locations tested which means that the long-term fluctuation of the individual test locations, in conĀtrast to short-term fluctuations, is usually of equal size and in the same direction.
