Abstract

We have observed galactic 13CO over the region b=0°, ℓ=20° to 40° at 3′ spacings of the 36 foot telescope beam. Because of its moderate opacity, 13CO is a better probe of molecular column density than 12CO. In addition, because the 13CO features are narrower and more transparent, the perceived nature of the cloud ensemble suffers less from blending. This simplifies study of the parameters of the ensemble. Here we confine our remarks to derivation of the parameter σcc specifying the velocity dispersion of the ensemble clouds with respect to each other.
