Hyperlipidemia and Atherosclerosis in Chronic Dialysis Patients

  • Chapter
Replacement of Renal Function by Dialysis

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia has been recognized in patients with renal disease for over a century. Only with the advent of dialysis treatment, however, has it been possible to determine why, in some chronically uremic patients, large lightscattering triglyceride-rich fat particles may accumulate in sufficient numbers to cause plasma lactes cence.
