Summary

Determination of pollutants in ambient air includes sampling, sample processing and analysis. The whole process may be carried out at the workplace, a sample of the ambient air may be transferred to the laboratory or a sample may be retained in solution or on absorbents. Relevant procedures and techniques are examined and discussed within this paper. Trends and needs are reviewed from the standpoints of the science and from practice in Member States of the European Community.
