Recent and Potential Advances Applicable to the Protection of Workers’ Health — Biological Monitoring II

  • Chapter
Assessment of Toxic Agents at the Workplace

Summary

In the recent past there has been confusion as to the definitions of ambient monitoring (AM), biological monitoring (BM), and health surveillance (HS). This paper presents new definitions of AM and BflLwhich should more clearly define the various concepts and help to distingui sh them from HS. It also presents a short review of the attitude of national authorities of the countries of the European Community to biological monitoring and discusses points of ethics concerning the introduction of BM in occupational health practice.
