Abstract

The treatment of cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (CIN) today, falls into two categories: excision and destruction. Ex-cisional methods, hysterectomy with or without vaginal cuff or cone biopsy have given excellent results (1) and in most parts of the world form the mainstay of therapy. The terminology generally used for this procedure is a bit confusing: is it a conization, a cone, an exconization or a cone biopsy? Probably cone biopsy and exconization are the preferred terms; they stress the diagnostic, the therapeutic character of this procedure respectively.
