Abstract
The rapid development of respiratory therapy techniques in the last 15 years might have come to a standstill. Conventional ventilators are safe, easy to handle and useful in most cases of respiratory failure. Nevertheless this form of ventilatory support has shown its limitations so that a lot of clinicians and engineers have been looking for new ways. High frequency ventilation is going to be an important tool in several ICUs.
