Summary
Invasion of the leptomeninges by leukemic cells is an early and common complication in children who develop acute lymphocytic leukemia. If not adequately treated this disease progresses and produces characteristic anatomical sequelae and predictable clinical manifestations. This paper has reviewed these problems by examining a) the anatomy of the leptomeninges as it pertains to CNS leukemia, b) the sequence of events occurring during the histopathogenesis of meningeal leukemia, and c) the histological sequelae and their resultant clinical manifestations.
