Abstract
Liberalization of abortion law in Czechoslovakia in 1958 enabled the collection of a reasonable number of normal human embryos that could be used for medical studies. Since 1960, I have collected, dissected, and incubated with various substrates, more than 500 specimens. Clinical history was recorded for all embryos. Embryonic age was calculated from the last normal menstrual period of the mother. The conceptional age was calculated by adding 14 days to the first day of the last menstrual period of the mother if the menstrual cycle was of the regular 28 days’ duration. In some specimens, the term of conception was known from the anamnesis.
