Abstract
The identification and classification of precursors of endometrial cancer are among the greatest problems in gynaecology today. Although endometrial lesions have been studied for a number of years, their significance and classification remain somewhat obscure. As Scully1 has pointed out, “Unlike precancerous changes of the cervix which can usually be observed directly through the colposcope and detected and followed by cytologic examination, analogous lesions in the endometrium can neither be visualized nor evaluated cytologically with a high degree of confidence.”
