The following set of papers is mainly a representative sample from 19 presentations at a special symposium on the comparative behavious, ecology, and life histories of darters held during the 62nd (14–15 June, 1982) annual meeting of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists on the campus of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois, U.S.A.
