Legal Data. An Essay About the Ontology of Law

  • Chapter
Theory of Legal Science

Part of the book series: Synthese Library ((SYLI,volume 176))

Abstract

The central part of European “legal science” (Rechtswissenschaft) consists of “legal dogmatics” (Rechtsdogmatik), interpreting and systematizing legal norms. Legal dogmatics is analytical-evaluative in principle. Its method is similar to judicial method, although legal scholars have no power to decide cases and think in a more general manner than judges.

I express my gratitude to Lars Lindahl for a very important discussion.
