Abstract
General theoretical discussion of the techniques for assessing the effects of new constructions or operations on the aquatic environment would not greatly help those needing practical guidance or assistance with managing an EIA team. Some real-life examples may better illustrate the extraordinary variety of problems that arise and the awkward management situations that can happen. The chosen examples relate to the sea but the scientific principles and administrative situations are applicable to rivers and lakes.
